Jamie Lindsay

Eleven: Album Review

scroll

After a stunning 20 years in the Aussie Rock scene, Tasmania born Jamie Lindsay is finally taking it back to his country music roots with his debut, self-produced album, Eleven. Eleven songs out on 11/11... and it's a mixed bag of treats you're bound to love!

Averaging 150 shows a year across Australia and even all the way in Hawaii, Jamie is no stranger to the music scene and now he has 11 more incredible songs to add to his live performance repertoire, alongside the incredibly creative cover tracks he performs.

Eleven is a mix of country-rock, country-pop and more traditional country music sounds. Yes, country music is not everyone's cup of tea, but trust me when I say you need to make an exception for this album.

The record starts out very country rock with awesome guitar riffs, including his 2019 released single Ya Gotta Go There To Come Back; one of the first songs I heard from Jamie and to this day, one of the most catchy songs I've heard. Start Again takes you more into the soft country-rock vibes and Jamie's smooth vocals ties together what is a pretty, laid back track before he gets back into the rock side of things with Nashville, Tennessee.

The electric guitar riffs throughout the record will have your head bopping and feet tapping, and Nashville, Tennessee is no exception. With some of the names you know and love featuring in this track, you won't be able to help but to sing along.

Then Jamie transports us into stunningly beautiful stories across the next five tracks, with more lack back musical elements and captivating vocal harmonies and melodies. Simple Life features layered harmonies and a simple yet catchy kick-track, and Blood (Love is Everything) features the mesmerising voice of Ellie Bartlett, incredibly thought out harmonies, and an eerily magical tract that you could imagine being featured in a mythical context.

The album continues through songs like Dreamworld and Water Under The Bridge, with Jamie doing what he does best in true country style; storytelling! These lyrical stories are accompanied by boppy guitar riffs and groovy drum beats, as well as beautiful acoustic guitar romance in A Place To Call Home.

Hard-hitting country rock song Big Bad Wolf suits the hard-hitting ideal of the demand for money in today's world, and then Jamie switches it back to classic country with Sirius; wrapping up the record with an incredibly special song with a strong message that many people will relate to in their own way. This song about Jamie's best pup pal Sirius debuted at #10 on the AMRAP regional charts, showing exactly how special this track is.

After reading this little run-through of the album, you'll be able to see that it is a wonderful roller coaster of stories and music before even listening to it. Well, now go and listen to it! As Jamie said in our exclusive interview, "Have a beer or a whisky and just enjoy the music!"
